Whit kept smiling at Avery, looking her straight in the eye."Kinky, I like it. I thought you were all 'Drop Acid not Bombs.' Make love, not war. Call me later."He winked at her, just take a dig at her. Whit liked this girl, she was spirited. He loved to shock people, so he couldn't help himself. He was already rolling on the long road of his thought process and his brain filter has been busted since he was two years old.
"Johnson, I'm going to be quiet even though you asked me ever so sweetly."Why was Joe acting wierd? Whit wasn't acting different, and Joe's reaction was definatley interesting. "What's interesting is, you are so protective of dear Avvie here, but you've only talked of her once. By your apology, I'm taking it you lied to me. Everyone lies, so I'm not offended. But why you're lying is the key. Why's she so special? Or are you ashamed? Whit was preparing himself for another good slapping, but he was enjoying himself immensely.

Avery calmed down a lot when she could still see the handprint, red and stinging, even a minute after the hit had come. That gave her some kind of sick pleasure... "I'm fine... I swear, Joe." Avery tried to smile but instead she sat back on her chair and just facepalmed as Whit talked again, trying with every fiber of her being to not kill him. Her hand was cold but it was something of a comfort knowing that she could hit Whit, and still not hurt herself. A sense of control, she guessed. She tried to stop thinking just as Whit was asking Joe if he was ashamed of her. "Why can't you just shut up, or drown, or something." She said behind her hand, quiet enough for no one but herself to hear.

Joe walked right up to him raising his fist, He thought about hitting him for a second but then stopped. He looked back at Avery and smirked. When he turned around again hut punched Whit and then walked out of the library, pissed off. He wasn't ashmed of anything he had done in his past.

For a second she thought about running after Joe and going with him but then she remembered he now had a girlfriend, who she heard was very possesive, so she decided not to run after him and just sunk further into the chair. And broke into a small chorus of applause. She smirked at Whit and hoped that her face read 'That's what you get for crossing the line' or something along those lines. She just kept smirking at him, but couldn't do him one up because it made her sick to look into his eyes. She sat rooted to her chair and just kept looking at him. "I'm not leaving, I was here first."

Whit grabbed his stomach and gasped for air. He put his hand on the table and braced himself, before sitting up straight again. Oh what was that face. That was clearly an annoyed face. And thanks for the applause darling, I now I took it like a champ." Whit smirked back at her. Did she really think he was moving?"I thought it was ladies first. Hm, I guess I could be the girl and you could do the spanking if that's what you're into."
"Well that was unexpected. Must've struck a nerve you think? Maybe his blue shiny pants are on too tight. Well, now that we're alone, I don't know much about you. Where'd you grow up flower child? On a commune, in a national park, in the rainforest?" His stomach was throbbing, but he would deal with Joe later. He'd just made a new enemy.

"I was clapping for Joe, jackass. He did the world some good. Shame he didn't puncture a vital organ or it would have gotten a standing ovation." She shoved her hands into her back pockets and kept her bag on her lap. "I wouldn't have sex with you if the fate of humankind depended on it, you can only get me in your dreams." She scoffed, still trying to stare him down. It looked like he wasn't leaving.
"Striking nerves seems to be your specialty, I just abseloutly cannot believe you said that to your friend. You must be really heartless. And just in case you actually care, I grew up in Maine." Avery answered reluctantly. "No need to ask where you grew up, I already know; Hell."

Whit grinned. "Joe's gone soft, he's a coward. Apparently he's not the boy I thought he was. I thought he could take a little heat from the kitchen. Nect time I get in a bar fight, I won't have you be the one to call 911. I don't want to bleed on you're knitting." Whit fed off her anger, it was like gasoline to a fire. He wanted to know what made her tick, and apparently sex jokes made her uncomfortable. Whit thrived on uncomfortable. "They all say never flower child, but in the end I reap the benefits" he winked at her again. He leaned back in his chair.
"Ah Maine, land of the lobsters. Not as exotic as the rainforest, but just as earthy. I lived there once in Augusta. Nice place. Cold as Siberia though. So did your family sing campfire sings around the fireplace and strum guitars? I can hear the kumbayas now. What's a child of Mother Nature doing in a Miami academy. Shouldn't you be out saving the manitees?" People didn't understand him. He wasn't really all that mean. He just wanted information. Whit was witty and smart, which was a bad combination. He inherited the ability to get under people's skin from his father, and he went pro before he hit puberty. He made a techer cry at every school he went to.
"I did grow up in the land down under! Oh wait, not Austrailia huh? Well, close enough. Lucifer is actually a really caring father as soon as you get past the fact he is ruler of all damned souls and he has a spiky tail. Luckily I didn't inherit suck unseemly characteristics. I did inherit his charms and damned good looks though."

"Don't you dare talk about Joe like that. He's doing much better than you are, he's got a girlfriend," She grimaced. She didn't dislike Rachel, but she just hadn't heard too many good things about her. "And shes really nice. You're all alone and so sour no one would even secondglance you." She smirked.
"You don't need to live in the rainforest to love the Earth, the Earth is everywhere. And actually, no. Only my 8 year old sister plays guitar, and my father was a member of..." Another grimace. "Corporate America. Shouldn't you be out stealing people's souls?" It's a shame Whit was so dumb and jerkish, he was really goodlooking...

Whit rolled his eyes. He didn't want a girlfriend. High school relationships were meaningless, but Whit liked meaningless. They didn't matter. "Oh that's right I forgot.I knew there was something on my to-do list. I have to get one of those girlfriend things. How much to girls cost these days. And sure Rachel is a nice girl, when she isn't getting the crap beaten out of her for calling ex-friends sluts. She's a real keeper." Whit smirked. The girl hadn't caught on yet. Making fun of Whit made him laugh, not offended. He had no conscience, or brain filter.
"Oh no flower child! I am so upset know. I was picturing a happy family that refused to eat meat together, but Daddy's been dipping into the busniess world. So where do you get the peace vibe from? Was mommy a cild of the sixties? Family was a close nerve to hit, and Whit was still hurting from the punch and the slap he got. Oh, and by the way, is it Wednesday? Because I reserve Wednesday to steal people's souls and sell them to my father. My father is a part of Corporate America too. He steals Corporate Americans souls! Maybe my dad did a deal with your dad! That would be totally a coincidence. Whit was ready to grab her arm this time if she tried slapping him. It's a shame the girl hated him.

Avery just took one damn deep breath and closed her eyes. "Don't. You. Ever." She took a breath and opened her eyes, revealing a fire he hadn't seen yet. "Talk. About. My. Family. Like. That." She was so past slapping him, since he expected it. Instead, she kicked him where it hurt.
"I swear, if you ever do that again. You won't be able to speak for the rest of your life and you're going to love it, eating through a tube. Now why don't you just take your head out of your ass long enough to see that you're not the only one in the world who's pretending not to care. Please, you think you'll never be figured out. Guess what, I'm smart. And I see right through your stupid act. You're a jerk because your parents were jerks and no one ever wanted to be your friend. And I'm really sorry about that but that's no reason to be a snob and think you're better than people. Prenteding not to care is only going to make you more miserable inside. You're living a lie and you know it, jackass." She just stood a smirked, anticipating his reply. She was going to love it.

Whit almost yelled as the girl kicked him the jewels. He sinced in pain, but tried to keep his face straight. He didn't want her to think she was winning. "Seriously. You are the most hypocritical hippie I have ever met. Who practices 'Love, not violence' and then assaults someone twice? Really, pick a side. You can't be a lover and a fighter. There is no such thing as a loving mercenary." Whit winced in pain again. She may have won this microbattle, but he was going to win the war.
"So you think you have me all figured out huh? Well guess what. When you assume you make an ass of u and me. Well mostly you. That would make you feel better right. Daddy didn't love me enough and Mommy was scared of Daddy. Well guess what. I was loved enough. I had a few friends where ever I lived, and then I moved. But that didn't bother me. If it makes you sleep better at night, yes I was abused and forced to move while Daddy was in the army." Whit kept the pain off his face. He leaned in so close their faces were centimeters apart. He felt her breath on his cheeks.
"I don't think I'm better than you, I think you're a hypocrite. So if you want to rip people's throats out, go ahead. But don't call yourself a hippie. I don't pretend to be anything I'm not. You're living the lie Miss Flower Child Peace on Earth. So if you want to throw stones in your glass house, that's fine with me. But I'll be waiting to laugh when the shards come falling down." Whit kept his face close not daring to move. One because it was more dramatic if he stayed, and two his jewels hurt so much he couldn't really move.

At this point, Avery didn't really have anything to say. She was just genuinely shocked that he had told her any of that. So before she knew what she was doing she slipped her hand behind his neck and pulled him to her until their lips met. She pulled away slowly and went to whisper in his ear "I hate you." She had abseloutly no idea how she could have let this happen, but it was just such an impulse thing. Joe was going to be so pissed if she told him, but at this point Joe was the last thing on her mind...

Whit knew he had defeated her "Whit the damaged loner" point when he looked into her eyes. She resembled a deer in the headlights/just realized the tooth fairy wasn't real. The next thing he knew he was being pulled in and he was kissing her. It was a quick peck, but Whit was generally impressed. So far he had forseen most of her combacks, but she was original. As they parted she whispered "I hate you," in his ear and he smiled. "Wow. I guess I can't accuse you of being formulaic. You never repeat yourself." After this quick quip. Whit was speechless. He just sat and stared at Avery with a mixture of admiration and interest. This girl was number one on his curiosity list. He wasn't leaving her alone until he got the whole story. Or just her.

Avery's heartbeat still hadn't slowed down and she just looked into his eyes and enjoyed his shock and silence, it was priceless. Espically the silence. When he spoke she blinked, smiled and shook her head slightly. "What can I say? It's a hypocrite thing." She shrugged as she spoke and winked as she finished. She bit her lip as she looked back at him. She wanted to, but she couldn't dare kiss him again. He'd have a comback for that by now. She stopped biting her lip and just stared at him. There was more to this kid than she thought...

Whit smiled. She was finally catching on. He was beginning to respect her in a way. Whit didn't really respect anyone, but he didn't want to offend her anymore. He smirked she winked and bit her lip. Her body langauge was telling her thoughts. The bitten lip meant she wanted to do something, but was afraid too. Afraid to what, kiss him again? He wouldn't be an asshole to her now. "Nope, no combacks this time." Whit reached across the table and put his hand on her cheek. He rubbed his thumb along her cheek bone and pulled her back for another kiss. He felt connected to her, in a way he couldn't explain. It frightened him, but he was too far in.
