As soon as Avery saw the smirk, she knew he was reading her like a book. It scared her a little bit because she didn't know what he would do, but it's the kind of scared that puts butterflies in your stomach; anxious, she guessed. She kind of liked it. As soon as he spoke her smile grew by a mile and she thought her stomach was going to explode from all the butterflies. He touched her face and something in her just exploded. She kissed him back, and it felt... strange. He was acting like a totally different person now, he was... caring. Something in her knew it couldn't last, but the rest of her wanted it to so bad... The kiss ended and she just stared at him, with a mixture of shock and something else... "For the first time in my life, I'm speechless." She whispered.

Whit smiled and winked at her. He was nervous, and resorted back to old self. Make a joke, deflect and make them laugh. "Ready to take a blood oath on it? I've always wanted to know a mime. I never understood the stuck in glass box concept. I don't think it's funny." Whit laughed. He wasn't always an asshole. He just spoke whatever came to his mind. He reads people and then acts on it. Avery was an open book. You could tell what she was thinking, and he loved that. She was never dull and always ready to come back at him.

Avery laughed along. "You could pull off mime much better than me, you already have the white hair going for you. Don't mimes have that?" She was so clueless when it came to mime attire, but really who needs to know anything about that. Other than if you're in a tight fix on Jepordy... "Please don't become a mime, they scare me to death. Plus, you couldn't shut up long enough to do it and I like you better as a jerk, anyway." She grinned, it seemed like the perfect thing to say, it would make him laugh, he hoped. Avery loved Whit's smile, it made her feel... bright. She loved how he was unpredictable, and he could say anything at any time and it would be funny, kind of. He was just... volatile, but not in the bad way. He was anything... in a good way.

Whit grinned widely. The girl had spunk and a good sense of humor. Inside he was relieved that she could laugh at his jokes and make fun of him too. It made her more attractive. "Nah, mime's have white face and they wear ugly berets. Close, but no Cuban. Anyways, yeah I couldn't shut up. It's a blessing. Good to know you like me as a jerk because I would be a jerk anyways. At least I won't be injured in the process."Whit looked down at the floor and then looked up into her large eyes. He was feeling really nervous about this, but he was going to give it a shot."So, uh, I was kind of wondering if-" Whit scratched the back of his head. "Youwannahangoutsometime?" Whit winced as the words came out of his mouth. He spoke so fast he hoped she hadn't understood him.

Avery smiled as he talked about berets, she hated them too, what a coincidence. She laughed at the blessing bit, and laughed even more when he talked about her hitting and kicking him. "Good, cause I don't want to hurt you again. Your face injured my hand."She cradled her hand to her chest as if it were broken with a giggle. Then she heard him ask if she wanted to go out. She had to supress a laugh at his nervousness, it was the cutest thing she had ever seen in her life. She heard every word crystal clear, but she decided to mess with him. "If I what? If I want to make a pie with you sometime? Sure, I love pies, who doesn't love pie. The question is, what kind of pie? I kind of lean toward peanut butter chocolate, but with soy milk, of course. But I could go for a good blueberry. Ooh! Or huckleberry! Sure, pie sounds great."

Whit closed his eyes and quickly opened them again. It was just perfect that his brain chose to shut off at this moment. It was ridiculous. "Yes I do agree that pie is amazing, but I don't really think that my pie making abilities are up to par. I must have not gotten the cooking chromosome. What I mean to say was...will you go out with me sometime?"Whit waited For an answer, but he was afraid of being turned down. "Well, I mean it doesn't have to be a date or anything! It could just be as friends..." Whit caught himself stopped talking for a moment. "I mean, I know I'm so pretty you might be intimidated. It's hard competition." Whit flipped his hair like a girl when he said this. He wanted to deflect his weakness because Whit hated being weak.

Avery listened, and rolled her eyes at the part where he suggested they go as friends. She was almost shocked that the pie bit had rolled right off his back so easily, after all he did seem really nervous. "Could you cut the friends shit. I kissed you, and you think I just want to be your friend?" She sighed, some people... "You need to loosen up a little bit. After all, they say you should never go flower child, so why should you be spooked." She was a little out of it, being that he had seemed like this mattered so much to him. After all, he was the one who said girlfriends were worthless and he didn't need one. Then that made her think, was this really a good idea. Avery was one to fall hard and fast no matter what, and he was just going to be his old self to her. Should she really be doing this... well, it's Whit, and he is the man, how could she resist.

Whit grinned. She was quick, but he quicker. He leaned in so close to her face that his lips that they were millimeters away from kissing. "Okay flower child. Here's the dealio. I like you, I don't know why because you slapped me and kicked me in the jewels. Now, I would like to see more of you. You're crazy and bitchy and sassy and wonderful. And I'm nervous because I don't want be attacked again. You're pretty little hands just might break." He stared at her intensely waiting for her to kiss him, slap him or agree to go on date with him.

Avery's smile grew and she laughed right in his face. Good thing he could actually say he liked her, it meant that he means it. And good thing he could admit that he was nervous, it meant he wouldn't be an ass 24/7. As her silent laughing ceased she just looked at him, sporting a rather goofy grin on her pretty little face. "You need to just stop talking..." She leaned up and pressed her lips onto his again. She knew he saw it coming and this time it didn't even matter. After a few seconds she ended it. Just because he had nothing snippy to say didn't mean she didn't. "After all, make love not war, right?" She winked.

Whit loved every second of the short kiss. He really liked her, it was beyond the flings and flirts he had with every girl. Whit smiled when it was over. "Finally you're catching on." She knew he meant it because there were some things Whit didn't deflect and joke about, and that was when he really cared about someone. The fact that Avery could explode and kick your ass at any moment kept Whit on his toes, which was exactly what he needed. But was she his girlfriend or just a girl he is going on one date with? He didn't want to ask, but she hoped she would clarify.

Avery smiled, like she had almost every second after the kick to the family jewels. Something about Whit, some indefinable quality made her tick, but it made her feel safe, and secure at the same time. "Well, sometimes, when I'm not hugging trees and singing campfire songs at the commune, I like to think. But just every now and again... if I do it too much, it impares my ability to refuse meat." She grinned. There was that something, in his eyes, in his statement. She couldn't put a finger on it but it was something that made you forget what he'd said and just think about what could come next. Unpredictability. "You look a little rattled. What's on your mind?"

"I knew you up on a commune. Hah. If you really want to learn the truth I grew up in 31 different states. Not Hell, sadly. Yeah I was thinking about something." Whit scratched his head again. He didn't want to be nervous. "Are we dating? I mean the kissing was nice, and I know you like me. Yeah, I know, I'm irresistible. I want to see you, like date you." He raised his eyebrows and waited.

Avery laughed. "I think my commune had less people on it than the number of states you've lived in." She looked at him a little strangely when the question came. She really didn't exactly expect him to be the one to ask the couple question. He said he didn't need one. God, Whit is just such a contradiction... She supressed a laugh at the little nervous tic he had, where he scratched his head. And at at the face he had made, he could always provide some kind of comic relief to a situation, subtle, even when he isn't trying. Avery was just lucky she knew how to pick up on it, it made her like him a whole lot more. "Yeah. Well, we're not yet, I don't think. And I don't think thats such a good idea at the moment. Lets just take it one step at a time, cowboy." She smiled, even though it was Whit, this still could have hurt. She hoped he knew she wasn't turning him down.

Whit smirked. He wasn't exactly shocked at her response. Things were moving fast, but Whit always moved fast. Slow was boring, and Whit was rarely boring. At least she hadn't said no flat out. "Okay flower child. But do I have to a cowboy. They're kind of gay, ever seen Brokeback Mountain? Anyways. I don't do this whole date thing often. So, I refuse to go Starbucks. It's what the man wants me to do ya know? Whit winked. "So hows the beach? It's earthy enough the flower child right?" Whit sat back and leaned back in his chair, his usual smirk plastered on his face.

Avery watched Whit intently, and basically facepalmed when the smirk came around. She thought they were taking baby steps away from the smirk then BAM! it's back... ugh. "No, you have to be a cowboy," Avery giggled. "Because you're kind of gay. Ever looked in a mirror, pretty boy? You're just a tad girlish." She smiled and laughed a little to herself.
Then Whit said he hated Starbucks (GASP!), and she just had to... "Yeah I know, dude, the man's trying to bring you down. You gotta stay strong, acid is the way to go. Give peace a chance, dude..." Avery had to almost kill herslef trying not to laugh, as she pushed these statements out, in a spacey kind of druggie voice... If you can't beat then, join them, right?
"There's always a million people at the beachhhhh." She whined. She hoped it would annoy the crap out of him, because let's face it, annoying the annoying kid is just fun. "How about the park, who doesn't like swings and acting like they're five again?"
