Maddie had only recently arrived and was just realizing how out of place she actually was. She didn't know anyone, had no friends, and didn't even know her way around. So she was very thankful when she saw the familiar sign for Starbucks. Granted, she wasn't a big coffee drinker, but at least it was something familiar. Walking into the familiar atmosphere she let out a breath she hadn't known she had been holding. "Grande Caramel frappuccino please" she said to the barista and paid him quickly. She was beginning to feel more comfortable than she had since she realized that she really didn't know anyone here. She grabbed her drink and fell into an overstuffed armchair beside the window.
She looked around and saw that the place wasn't particularly busy and wondered where she should go from here. She knew she needed to make some friends with other students from Watson, but she wasn't quite sure how to go about it. She sighed, maybe coming to Watson hadn't been such a good idea after all, maybe she should have just stayed back in Canada.

Across Starbucks, Rachel Gray had seen Madeleine Blythe, a student a Watson Academy. She decided to go say hello and get to know her, so she took her coffee and walked over to the girl. She sat herself, and smiled.
"Hello, your Madeleine right? I'm Rachel, I go to your school." Rachel said with a smile. She hopped she wasn't being rude or anything. "What's up?"

Maddie blinked a couple times when someone who introduced herself as Rachel came to sit with her. In all reality it wouldn't have been a bit weird except that Rachel knew her name already. "Yeah, I'm Madeleine" she told Rachel nodding deciding not to ask how she knew her name. "It's nice to meet you Rachel" she told her honestly, "Not much is up" She shrugged, "I was just trying to get oriented, you know" Maddie told her, "New town, new city. I'm just trying to figure out my way around" She laughed, "I suppose going to a familiar place isn't exactly the way to get your bearings, but it's a familiar place in a new location." She paused realizing she was talking a lot, "So, what's up with you?

"Oh nothing. And don't worry, you will find your way around. After a while it's easy as pie." Rachel told her. "I came from LA a few years ago and it was hard." She told her. "Do you mind if I call you Maddie?" Rachel asked smiling at the new girl before her. "That's if you don't mind."

"Oh yeah, go for it" Maddie told her, "That's what most people call me anyway, Madeleine is kind of a mouthful. She paused thinking about LA, she had flown in there when her and her family had gone to Disneyland a couple of years back, and from what she remembered it was huge. "LA is bigger than here though right" Maddie said to Rachel, "I'm from a small city in Canada, it's kind of a big jump." She laughed a bit realizing how small town she sounded.
"I suppose I'll learn my way around eventually, and I always wanted to live in a bigger city" she shrugged, "So, what's LA like anyways?" "I've been there once, but we were only driving through on our way to Disneyland" Maddie admitted, "and that was a couple of years ago."

"LA is big and LA is a great place to live. All my old friends live there, but better people live here." Rachel admitted. "So Canada and Disneyland? They sound like great places. We never had enough money to go to Disneyland." Rachel said looking down. "But is it as good as everyone else says?"

Maddie listened to Rachel talk about LA, and then her comment about Disneyland. It wasn't quite what she had expected she had thought most of the students here were rich. "Well, Canada's not too special, but the city where I lived was gorgeous, but unfortunately we only have two seasons, rain and no rain" she laughed even though she was being totally serious, but realized that it sounded funny.
"Disneyland is pretty cool, especially if you're into rides. I loved the roller coasters" she admitted, "but it really depends on the personality of the visitor. I'm a total kid at heart so I loved it, but my friend went a couple months later and came back saying it was way overrated." She shrugged, "However she went in the summer and came home with a sunburn which may have contributed to her lack of a good time" she added, "I went in the winter and was enjoying fun in the sun while my friends were freezing their butts off in Victoria's rain and snow."
She laughed a little and sipped her drink. "So, I guess it really depends on a lot of factors" she admitted, "I take it you like it here then." She decided to change the subject before she made a fool of herself, "How long have you been a student, and what's the best part of life here" she asked Rachel curiously.

"Wow, Disneyland sounds fantastic!" Rachel said happily. "Err, I have been a student here for nearly two years. I'm a sophomore." She muttered. "Miami is a fantastic place, the beach, the shopping and the coffee." Rachel said picking up her coffee with a smile and then sipping it down. She smiled and leaned back against the chair.
"Umm...the school is cool. Like anyone yet?" Rachel asked with a smile. She loved hearing about peoples love lives. "I'm going out with someone. Do you know Joe Johnson?" Rachel loved saying that.

Maddie smiled when she heard how the happiness in Rachel's voice. She really hoped the other girl had a chance to go to Disneyland someday. The girl obviously liked Miami as well, which reassured Maddie that she had made the right decision in coming here.
She smiled when Rachel asked if she liked anyone yet. "Nah, not yet" Maddie admitted, "I haven't actually met any of the guys yet, although I guess I will sooner or later." She could tell that Rachel was the type who liked to hear about crushes and things. "Umm, sorry I don't know him" Maddie admitted apologetically, "I'm new here remember, I've barely met anyone yet." "It's cool that you've got a boyfriend though, I'm sure he's a great guy" Maddie said knowing that boys were usually a girls favorite topic, "So, what's he like? Joe Johnson that is."

"Oh, his really sweet and funny, and nice." Rachel told her. "I don't want to sound like a slut or anything, but yeah I really like him." Rachel told her with a smile. "But don't worry, I reckon that you will find someone. All the guys, or well most of them are really nice." Rachel said, hopping to make her happy.
"Well I hope that you have a fantastic time here and I bet you will." Rachel said. "Trust me, this place is the best and everyone is nice."

"Why on earth would that make you sound like a slut" Maddie asked curiously, "I would hope that you really like him since he's your boyfriend." "It's good that the guys are nice, but I'm not exactly waiting on baited breath for a guy" she admitted, "I mean I'd like to have a boyfriend, but I can live without one." She shrugged, "I try not to sweat the small stuff" she said, "It's not worth it."
Rachel's next comment sounded rather like a dismissal, but she just didn't know if it was supposed to be her cue to leave or if it just sounded like sort of parting, after all it wasn't like she had actually said good bye. "I'm glad it's so nice here, that's what I had hoped for when I picked this school, well, that and a lot of sun" she smiled, "and so far I haven't been disappointed." She looked outside to prove her point about the nice weather.

"Well that's good." Rachel said ignoring Maddie's comment on boyfriends. "The weather is really nice here." She said looking out the window of Starbucks. "And the shopping is ace."

Maddie realized that Rachel had ignored her comment about boyfriends and stored it in her mind to be careful what she said about guys around her. Instead she commented on the shopping comment. "Nice, I didn't realize the shopping here was good, but I probably should have figured." she paused, "The shopping in Victoria was ok, but usually my friends and I would go on weekend trips to Vancouver or Seattle for our shopping, it was just so much better." She smiled as she realized how vain she sounded, but it was true, Victoria may have been the capital, but the shopping was definitely better in other places. "What stores are there here anyway" she asked feeling like a bit of an idiot, "I know there are different stores down here than there is up in Canada."

"Normal ones. You know theres places for dresses, summer clothes and food. I'm sorry, I'm no good with names." She said looking down. "But I have to take you to this great place called Amercian Eagle. I think that's what it's called." She replyed trying to think. "Yeah, that's what it's called." She said, still thinking.

Maddie smiled realizing how dumb she had actually sounded. "It's alright, I'm not particularly good with them either" Maddie admitted. When she heard Rachel talk about American Eagle she remembered the shop, granted she had thought it a bit over rated, but maybe it was better in America. "We have an American Eagle in Victoria too" Maddie told her, "A lot of kids from my old school wore it." She laughed, "Actually along with Lulu Lemon, and Guess it was probably one of the most popular stores with my circle of friends" she admitted, "Granted we had to wear uniforms during school hours." She remembered those uniforms, "I was definitely glad we got all of December off because during the winter it got really cold in those skirts" she laughed, "I'm glad we don't have uniforms down here though."
