Woo Devyn! I'm reading a book about Hitler too! =3
xD;; I'm reading lots of books too. It's a bad habit of mine to read them all at once. xD; And then have to re-read parts if I forgot what was going on.
1 The Longest Winter by Alex Kershaw. About- The battle of the bulge and the Epic story of World War 2's most decorated platoon.
On a cold morning in December 1944, eighteen men from a small U.S Army intelligence platoon found themselves facing the main trust of the the entire German assault at the battle of the bulge. Vastly outnumbered, the platoon repulsed three German assaults in a fierce day-long battle, killing hundreds of German soldiers and defending a strategically vital hill. Only when they had run out of ammunition did they surrender. But their long winter was just beginning. As POWs the platoon experienced an ordeal far worse then combat- a brutal captivity, trigger happy German guards, Allied bombing raids, and a starving diet. Miraculously they survived-all of them- and returned home after the war. More then 30 years later President Jimmy Carter recognized the unit's "extraordinary heroism" and the U.S Army approved combat metals for the men, making them America's most decorated platoon of WW2. [Off the back]
And though it doesn't say on the back. Most of the beginning of the book tells about Hitler's attempted assignations and lots of other great stuff. I'm only partly through this book, but it's wonderful already and really interesting. The book also shows how stupid Hitler was when he sent German troops to Russia in the Winter. XD; Seriously.
2 Farewell to Manzanar by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston & James D. Houston.
About-After Pearl harbor America in their panic gathered all the 10, 000 Japanese American people and sent them to internment camps. Ironically I live near where one of the ruins of these camps still stand. In fact, near the one in the book. So it was a must read for me. :3
Jeanne Wakatsuki was seven years old in 1942 when her family was uprooted from their home and sent to live at Manzanar internment camp- with ten thousand other Japanese-Americans. Along with the search light towers and armed guards, Manzanar ludicrously featured cheerleaders, boy scouts, sock hops, baton twirling lessons, and a dance band called the Jive bombers, Who would play any popular song except the nation's number one hit " Don't fence me in" Farewell to Manzanar is a true story of one spirited Japanese American's attempt to survive the indignities of forced detention. And of a native born American girl who discovered what it was like to live behind barbed wire in the United States. [Off the back] So far this is a wonderful book. I noticed alot of people seem to think that the internment camps were like the concentration camps of WW2. Obviously their wrong. And I think this book will express it [I'm not even at half way yet. =x].
3 Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith by Matthew Stover. About- It's about the last movie of the Star wars newer movies. The space battles are fascinating to read, and it's written very well. Though never better then the original Trilogy books.
I can't find the book at the moment. =\ But the book itself is kinda self explainitory. And for those who have no idea what Star wars is. D8< READ IT OR WATCH IT.
4 Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. About: This is a breathtaking book. How it's written and the concept and setting of the story is amazing and makes you want to just keep reading it. It is about a young girl, Sayuri, sold by her father into slavery and raised from her young age in a Geisha house. As the captivating story goes on she becomes a beautiful young woman. Much more explanation would ruin the book. Though the book is probably not very appropriate for young readers. As it contains her Mizuage [aka virginity] too.
Ah! I love this book. I've read it nearly 5 times now. As I said. Just, breathtaking.
xD; Thats all for now. That was fun. :3 [/size]
