…Washed up on the shore,
A small girl stopped at the edge of the white sand, taking off her shoes with a careful movement, balancing on one leg. Tangles of blonde hair framed her delicate, rounded face with full cheeks and bright cerulean eyes. Over one shoulder was a postman’s bag, in blindingly white fabric, figures and patterns drawn on in fabric marker. Lulu closed her eyes and breathed in the salty air that carried off the ocean and blew inland. Turning to look at the city, her feathered earrings slapping against her shoulders, she smiled in that far away kind of way before turning and walking slowly down the sand to the water’s edge. She’d left her shoes on the pavement.
This time of day was the best time for coming to the beach alone. There was no one else around, and she could just relax without people judging her. That was one of the things that irked Lulu the most. When people stared at her or gave her dirty, sideways glances for no reason. Pushing her lion’s mane out of her eyes, she dropped her shoulder bag near the edge of the high-tide water and pulled out a beach towel. It had been drawn on in the same way her shoulder bag had been, but this time with a fae, large wings drawn on skilfully to look transparent. She laid it out, and sat down cross-legged, pulling out a sketch pad a pencil, before setting to work. Holding the pencil loosely in her left hand - for she was a bit of an oddity and wrote left handed - she sketched the outline of a pelican. After that, she filled it in, making it into a dragon instead, cobalt eyes fixed on the page with a dreamy look. One hundred billion castaways, looking for a home

Normally, when you injure your hand from blowing things up in the sand one would learn not to do it over again... but of course Dane being the idiot that he was already started burying various explosives in random places making sure not to get to close to the people who were also on the beach with him. As he finished up burying about 6 explosives he stretched and looked around, just barely noticing Lulu as he picked up the wire that connected all his explosives.
Stepping back as far as he could, Dane knelt down and lit the wire letting go quickly and watching in amazement at how fast the flame traveled. Having left one end of each explosive out of the sand, it was easier for each one to blow up at it's predicted time... and Dane being so transfixed with the fire didn't even bother to move as the first one exploded.
Then the second one. Then the third one. Then the fourth one.
Dane fell on top his rump and started coughing violently thanks to the fact that the sand he was blowing up seemed to creep into every pore of his body. He was surrounded by it, and his lungs obviously weren't very happy.
The fifth one blew up and Dane closed his eyes so no more sand would get into them. Then the sixth blew up and Dane laid down, basking in pleasure at the fact he hadn't injured himself and immensely satisfied with the results of what had happened... even if he was still coughing violently.

Lulu looked up and spotted a boy wandering around the beach. She squinted, trying to figure out who he was, but she didn’t recognize him. He seemed to be burying something, and she shifted her position on the towel to watch him. When he looked up, she caught his eye, and a strange feeling raced through her, like adrenalin. She hid behind her blonde hair, and blushed slightly. What was the matter with her? Pushing her hair away again, she watched him carefully, as he picked up a wire and stepped back. The wire split into six parts, then dipped down to the sand. They were attached to something buried in the sand. Suddenly, a flurry of explosions sent up a sand storm, and she screamed, throwing herself down on the towel to shield her eyes and face.
She could hear someone coughing, and she stood up cautiously as the dust settled. There were five craters in the sand (two of them had merged together). She realized she was shaking as she walked over to the boy cautiously. As she got up close, she got a better look at him, and she was left breathless. This must be what it felt like to fancy someone. She didn’t like it, but at the same time she felt strangely drawn to him, even though she was totally petrified. Was it possible for him to get hold of explosives? He could only be sixteen, maybe seventeen. She crouched down beside him, his body still shuddering as he coughed violently. “Excuse me. Are you alright?” she asked faintly, cobalt eyes wide with fascination. She had a strange but strong desire to reach out and touch him, and she wasn’t sure why. Shakily, she reached out a hand and put it on his shoulder. “Did you set off those explosives?” she breathed in awe, snatching her hand away in surprise. Why had she done that? She didn’t even know him!

At Lulu's voice Dane sat up, but when he opened his eyes everything seemed to go blurry. "Ah, damn," he said putting his fingers on his eyes in attempt to see if his contacts were still there. Well, one seemed to be there but the other had moved completely off his pupil. "I'm fine," he then said turning to Lulu with a small smile while his right eye started to water thanks to his contact. He blinked rapidly in an attempt to move it, but to no avail... only if he had a mirror.
"Yes, yes, I did," he said with a small laugh letting out on last cough. Scooting closer to her he then leaned in slightly with his eyes wide, "Could you help me? My contact moved and hurts like hell," he said totally oblivious to the fact they were just a few inches away from each other. He then opened up his right eye with his pointer finger and thumb and put his middle finger on his contact, "Just tell me which way to move it," he said with laughter in his tone.

Most people would have stared at him in disbelief, or maybe called the police, but Lulu wasn’t like most people. She lowered her eyes thoughtfully, and a small smile played on her lips. “That is very clever of you…” she faltered, and looked up at him again, confused as to why he was blinking like that. “I am sorry but…I do not think I know your name,” she frowned, and ran a hand through her messy hair, fingering a tight braid that was hidden in there.
When Dane leant forwards, she felt her breathing turn shallow as he stared into her eyes intently. Why was he so close? She was about to move when he explained, holding open his eye with his forefinger and thumb. “O-oh…Erm. Move it a little that way,” she said, her voice breathy, and pointed the direction the contact needed to go. Petrified it was the wrong way, she waited, holding a her breath without knowing. She was terrified of him, but at the same time, she was desperate to find out more.

Dane moved it just as she said, he blinked a few times and could finally see clearly. "Ah! Thanks," Dane said with his usual smile as he was finally able to see her clearly. Wiping the sand of off his arms and hands he held out one of his hands to Lulu trying to be as polite as he could "I'm Dane Raine," he said with a brief nod as if he were agreeing with himself. "And thanks about the clever comment, I don't really think much of it actually," he said a little modestly not even noticing the nervous air that seemed to flow from her. Dane had always been bad with things like that.
