I just thought this up..sorta :]
I love to use photoshop and I have been using it for like 3 years x) I think I'm quite good at making graphics and I know alot about it :], so if anybody likes to make graphics and wants some help with effects, texts, brushes...anything to do with graphics on photoshop..you can ask me :] I'm happy to help.

what process do you go through to make the background of something transparent. i forget XD

When you go to 'New' in the file menu, before you click okay, there should be a bit at the bottom that says 'content' and it should say 'white, background colour or transparent'. You just tick the transparent circle and click okay :] Hope that helps

ahahahha i feel stupid. i used to do it like once you had the document open, then go to the background/forground colors. i also tried to do it by going to "make layer from background" and selecting transparent, but when i saed it as a jpeg the background went back to white. see(its a livejournal about me, so it doesn't really matter cause the background on there is white but still.)
