It was early morning, and the streets of Miami were quiet as the sun rose above the horizon, staining the grey city soft orange. Cars sat silent at the rare hour of dawn, resting before the daily rush and hustle and bustle that was the capital of the Sunshine State. South Beach was empty, apart from a lone Pelican, picking his way through the seaweed that the night’s tide had thrown onto the snowy white sands. The silence was shattered when the guttural roar of a motorcycle cut through the air. The machine was a sleek black bike with sharp lines and shimmering paint. The rider was hunched forwards against the wind; his helmet was black as the motorbike, with a snake motif painted on the back. Speeding up, he pulled the bike up into a wheelie, and streaked down the center of the road. At such an hour, there was no danger of crashing. Jay’s grip tightened on the handle bars, and returned to two wheels. A crash…Frowning, he slowed considerably, and turned into a parking lot.
Rolling into a space between a battered white car with no apparent make, and a Toyota pick-up truck, he cut the engine and dismounted.

Reagan was used to getting up early in the morning these days, mainly because she found she couldn't sleep because she felt so bad for not talking to Liam. But these last past days were th complete opposite. Her and Liam had worked things out, and she was so happy that they were finally together.
She had forgotten what her other friends would think of her decision, especially Jay, she knew he wouldn't be happy with her. Walking down a straight concrete road, which was basically empty, apart from the flickering street lamps, she noticed a black motorcycle parked nearby alongside another car. She instantly thought of Jay, that was his motorbike. Reagan hesitated before pushing herself to walk over to him. She wasn't entirely sure the figure she could see was Jay, but she had a feeling it was, "Jay?" She asked, if it was him, why was he around so early?

Jay got out a cigarette and lit it, bringing it to his lips slowly. Someone calling his name behind him made him turn sharply, and his harsh expression melted to one of pleasure. “Morning Reagan,” he smiled a straight, toothy grin, and drew on his cigarette again. He went and sat down on the low wall surrounding the park, and patted the spot next to him, inviting her to sit down. “You’re up early,” his tone was cheerful, his dark eyes bright for once. His leg had stopped hurting, and he was having the stitches out on Sunday, and he’d bought some paint to cover up the scratches on his bike.

Reagan took the invitation and sat beside him on the wall, forcing a smile as he smiled at her. She didn't answer his question straight away, it was like he had read her mind, thats what she was going to ask him. He looked happy to see her, his expression had changed from one minute ago. But he obviously still had things on his mind. "I'm getting into the habit" She laughed, which was true, it was now a routine, getting up this early. "Why are you out this time?" She asked, curious about his actions. "You alright?" She added, as though she thought there was something bothering him.
She knew she had to tell him about Liam, but she didn't want to. The thought of his reaction wasn't a good one, she was going to put it off until the subject came up, if she avoided the topic; hopefully she'd never have to tell him.

He shrugged “I always get up early to ride my bike. It’s nice at this time in the morning, no one else is around,” he smiled, shrugging off his coat, revealing his tattoos. Humming tunelessly, he ran a finger over a bare patch on his upper left arm, he’d been thinking of getting something to fill in the space for a while now. “Am I alright?” he laughed at this, “I’m feeling great. I’ve just broken up the band, my stitches come out on Sunday and I’ve got some black paint real cheap to fill in the scratches on the bike,” he grinned at her again, and took a last drag at his cigarette before tossing it away into the road. Cracking his knuckles thoughtfully, he glanced at her. She seemed very cheery this morning, as did he. Was she back with Liam now? His stomach twisted enviously, he didn’t want her to be back with him. Feeling a bit guilty, he couldn’t help but push it away. Reagan would be so happy if she was back with him, and Holly had PJ now. Jay would get left behind, once again. The only person other than Holly that had ever tried to have a relationship with him was Ryuu, and that didn’t really get off on the right foot. “How are you and Holly now? You made up?” he asked stiffly, Holly’s name tasted bitter on his tongue.

Reagan smiled faintly, she didn't know why the whole band thing was good, but she didn't question it. "I was going to say" She began, fiddling with her 'Slytherin' scarf awkwardly, "The bike looks brand new" She finished, crossing her right left leg over the right.
So much for trying to re-direct the conversation. She knew it wouldn't be long before either Holly or Liam came up in topic. She nodded, her and Holly were pretty much back to normal now. Forgive and forget. Reagan didn't know if Jay knew that or not, or if he knew about PJ. "Yeah, we're okay now" She said quietly, in reaction to his tone. She looked ahead at the slightly dark empty road, and taking a deep breath she said, "I ran into Liam yesterday as well..." stopping there, she regretted it as soon as she had said it. Jay would figure it out sooner or later, she felt really bad, like she was turning on Jay's back. But it was her choice, she loved Liam, but she knew Jay didn't like him.

Jay laughed, and shook his head, standing up and going over to the bike. He ran a hand almost lovingly over its black surface, and stopped over three deep, long scratches in the paint work. “I wouldn’t look twice at it if that had been there in the shop,” he frowned, and knelt down beside it, inspecting the damage closely. Thank god it hadn’t dented the body work. “Well, it’s good you two have given each other another chance at being friends. I already gave her mine…and she fucked it up. I can’t believe her. I don’t know what I saw in her,” he frowned, picking a bit of gravel out of one of the scratches. Pulling up the hem of his shirt, he rubbed it against a dirty patch, wishing he had bought the soft cleaner when he had the money. He’d spent it on food now, and quite frankly he’d rather go hungry for a week than have his baby look messy. Stuff the ‘rugged grungy look’, he always liked to look good, and he liked his ride to look good too. “Ran into Liam, eh? How’d you manage that? He’s hard to miss,” he smirked at his little private joke, and rocked back on his heals, draping his arms over his knees. “Did you talk to him?” the words got stuck in his throat, sort of knowing what happened when she ‘ran into him’.

Reagan stayed where she was, on the low brick wall, and laughed faintly at Jays first comment. She noticed that the topic was not going to change any time soon, and realised that it was better to get it out of the way now, then later.
"Holly's like my sister, we'll always be friends" She replied, talking mainly to herself than to Jay, but the statement was true, the two always seemed to make up soon after an argument. "You can't mean that Jay" She then said, finding it hard to believe that he had supposedly forgotten everything he'd seen in Holly, and that the two used to be perfect together. Even if it was a false statement, Reagan knew Jay wouldn't admit to it anyway, "I mean it was one kiss..." She added quietly. She'd forgiven Liam.
Reagan ignored the height joke, she would have normally laughed at it, but didn't. "Umm yeah" She mumbled, she could tell Jay knew, but she didn't want to spell it out herself. "We talked things over..." She added, looking up at him, not really wanting to look at his reaction if he had figured out what she was trying to hide.

Jay shrugged, straightening up and brushing off his shirt. Getting out a cigarette and a lighter, he lit the cigarette and watched the smoke curl up into the dawn sky. “Maybe, maybe not. Either way, I’m over her,” his face became stiff and reserved again, and he stared at the ground as he smoked, not daring to look at her. He knew it would only twist the knife that was being eased into his heart at this moment. It had been just one kiss but…on the first day of getting back together; you’d think she’d be a bit more careful, right? He sighed, and ran a hand through his hair, breathing as calmly as he could manage, even though there was panic flooding through his veins as his heart rate soared in disappointment. “Th-…That’s good…great…yeah…” he turned away slightly, his dark eyes narrowed against the bright, low sun. There was nothing to say, nothing at all. He couldn’t exactly proclaim his love now, could he? Would she change her mind? He some how doubted that, Liam had a firm hold on her now. “Right. You just…Cool…” he couldn’t bring himself to say what he wanted to. ‘Don’t let him get away with too much. He’ll take advantage of you then.’ For some reason, it didn’t seem like the best thing to say to someone who’s got back together with the love of their life. No, no…That was too strong. Someone they were in love with. Yeah. Recently, Jay had had nothing but Reagan and the time they slept together on his brain. It was nothing, just a drunken little fling, but he still yearned for her. He could deny himself no longer, and he turned to look at her, his dark eyes steady on hers, even though his chest was screaming.

Reagan nodded, she still wasn’t sure to believe that he was completely over Holly, but lately it did seem true. She uncrossed her legs, and eyes flicked over his face, he was not looking at her and she felt horribly guilty. She bit her lip awkwardly as he seemed to stutter in his reply, she shouldn’t have said anything, this wasn’t going very well.
Slowly standing up, she walked the short distance to wear Jay was standing. “Jay?... I had to forgive him, I couldn’t…” She said quietly, but loud enough for him to hear, as she reached his side. When she had agreed to be Liam’s girlfriend officially, she had completely forgotten about Jay, and now she felt horrible. It was all her fault, she had to do what she thought best. “I know the thing with Holly never meant to have happened” She added, she watched him, as he turned to face her. His eyes were impossible to read, “Are you okay?” She mumbled quietly, knowing as soon as she’d said it, it was a stupid thing to ask. Shoving her small hands into her jean pockets so looked at him, he looked really upset but she didn’t understand why.

Not trusting himself to speak, he shook his head slightly, then changed his mind and nodded. Drawing on the cigarette carefully, he pushed away a desire to go find some drugs. He needed them right now, and Miami was the center of the illegal drug trade - unknown to many. Biting his lip, he lowed his eyes, the knife twisted as his stare grazed across her body shamefully. Turning away from her to blow his smoke away from her face, he resisted the need to touch her, feel her in some way. “I’m going to miss you, Reagan…” he said quietly. He wasn’t sure she’d understand quite what he meant, but it was all he could cope with saying. He was going to miss loving her without hurting himself…the knife twisted again, and it took everything he had not to break down. The cigarette bent in half in his stiffened grip, and he sighed, dropping it and sliding his foot over it, extinguishing the burning ember.

She frowned, not understanding anything he was portraying in his expression. She hated that he kept looking away from her, as if he was afraid to look at her. I’m going to miss you, Reagan…? Even though this made no sense to her whatsoever, she couldn’t help but feel hurt, although she knew she’d hurt Jay in some way as well. “What is that supposed to mean?” She asked, her tone wasn’t supposed to sound so harsh and annoyed. Why would he miss her? She’d still be her, so would he; nothing was going to change just because she and Liam were now going out. “Jay, look at me…” She then said, “You’re confusing me” She admitted, trying to smile but her attempt failed, as she continued to stare up at him.

Jay bit his lip, and tasted blood as he cut the skin. Hissing a curse, he pressed his hand to his mouth, trying to stem the flow. “Reagan…I…” he bottled out, unable to tell her he was in love with her with a mouthful of his fist and blood. He pressed harder, and after a few moments he carefully took his hand away, and it seemed to have stopped. Wincing when she asked him to look at her, he turned slightly, staring into her eyes. He tried to keep his pain at bay, but it was no use. Dark eyes flooded with torn-hearted grief. “Reagan, I’m so sorry but. I…I think. I … his breath stuck in his throat, and he took a steadying breath, trying again. “I love you, Reagan,” he looked down at his feet, feeling shame rising up in his gut. What a twat, telling some girl who has a boyfriend that you love her. That’ll go down really well.

Reagan waited for him to say something, she wasn't sure whether to be worried about him, or annoyed at him. Jay didn't usually act like this. What the hell was the matter with him?
She winced slightly as she noticed a small amount of blood, was he trying to keep something from her so bad, that he had to physically stop himself from saying it. She didn't speak as she watched him, he would have to tell her sooner or later, whatever it was.
I love you, Reagan
Reagan felt her mouth literally drop, she hadn't expected anything along those lines to spill out of Jay's mouth. He couldn't be serious. He tells her this after she's got back with Liam, when he knew she loved Liam. "What!" She shouted, but she hadn't meant to yell at him, if only Jay looked like he was joking around. But this wasn't funny. She tried to find the words to say, she wasn't angry with him, she didn't know what to feel. "You tell me this now!" She said, rather loudly, she sounded upset.

He felt like he was being torn apart, his heart cut to pieces. The knife in his chest was twisting and turning, torturing him with every breath. He breathed in sharply, flinching both at Reagan’s words and a kind of physical pain induced by having his heart ripped out. “I’m sorry Reagan. I’m so sorry. I’m such a twat. I’m sorry,” he whispered uselessly, turning to look at her, raw pain in his eyes. He blinked several times, and let out a soft ‘oh’ when he realised he was crying. Why was he crying? He wiped his eyes viciously, salty tears dampening his hands. He bit his lip again, stumbling over to the wall, and sitting down on it, burying his face in his hands. Not trusting himself to even look at Reagan again, he just stayed where he was, no matter how badly he needed to hold her.
