Avery sighed happily. She was suddenly spineless around Chase. She wished she had the guts to grab his hand but she for some reason didn't. She smiled when he spoke. She was at a bit of a loss too but maaaaaybe. Well... She leaned forward and kissed him again. Maybe that would make it better. Hah.

Chase smiled, like he was doing for the last ten minutes, when the girl lightly kissed him on his thin lips. Weirdly enough, Chase found the courage to hold Avery’s hand. It was a big step, but this was Chase Hill we’re talking about. The guy who never ever makes firsts moves, except for today. He was a risk taker this fine evening. Chase brushed by her legs, to find her hands. He squeezed them, ever so slightly and pulled away from the kiss. His eyes sparkled, as they met with Avery’s.

Avery was generally shocked as she felt his hand brush against hers. She couldn't believe he was holding her hand, then again she couldn't believe they kissed, she was there, she met him, etc., etc., etc. She tried not to laugh as he squeezed her hands, she was way past "really starting to like this guy". It worried her a little bit, she didn't really want to fall for him really fast, but it was happening wether she wanted it to or not. He pulled away and she caught the twinkle in his eye. She smirked at him slightly. Not making fun, just really really happy.

“Avery,” Chase started to say, liking once again how her name rolled off of his tongue, “What does this mean.” He wanted to know what the relationship was between them. Were they just friends, or were they more. Chase was almost sure they were more, but he did not want to confuse the pretty girl. Maybe she only pitied him. Hell, what did Chase know anyways? His experience with girls was very slim. His smile disappeared, as he awaited the answer. You could he was nervous.

Avery smiled as he said her name, she liked hearing it from him. Then the smiled slid off her face as he said his next sentance. She didn't know and she hoped he wouldn't ask. She liked him, she knew that, but she didn't know if she wanted a boyfriend at the moment. And it seemed that that was what he was currently pushing for. But if he asked she couldn't say no or her chances with him were more than over. So she would have to. Thankfully, he didn't ask. He just awaited an answer. One which she didn't posess. "I really don't know, to be honest. I mean, I like you a lot. But I don't know..."

Chase’s smile dropped. That was almost the worst way to let someone be rejected, in his opinion. “Oh.” He said, turning his face from her. “I see.” Chase told her, but really, he didn’t. What was wrong with Chase that Avery didn’t like. He didn’t understand at all. She was confusing him, and he didn’t like it at all. Maybe they were just better, being friends and all. But that’s not what Chase wanted. He wanted Avery to be his girlfriend, so he could kiss her whenever he pleased. He looked back up at her, but couldn’t stand looking her in the eyes. Thus, he turned away.

Avery bit her lip as the smile on Chase's face faded, he didn't look so cute when he was upset. And certianly not because it had been her who had made him that way. She bit harder on her lip as he turned away, she could feel the pain in each word. He didn't say many, only two or three, but she felt really bad still. She could tell he didn't understand, she could also tell that he would probably not want to hear the sound of her voice right now. Heck, if she was him, she sure as hell wouldn't. She sighed and laid her head against the kitchen cabinet, looking at the bare, white ceiling. She had to formulate her words carefully, now. "Listen, I know you don't want to hear it and you probably want me to leave, but I won't. Not until you listen to me. Okay? I like you. We had a good thing going. But I live a life too, and, unfortunately, it's filled with a lot of stress. I'm just afraid that I would either gather more stress from having a boyfriend or just dump all my shit on you all the time and bring you down. And I don't want to do that. I like you a lot, and I want you to know that. If this is you asking me out, then this is me saying yes. Yes, but just not right now at this moment. I have to clear some shit up first..." Well, sherlock, that could have been handled MUCH better...

Chase’s face fell. Even more then before. Avery’s face was serious, and he hated that. He wished that he would have said nothing. Then now of this awkwardness and stressfulness would have never happened. Chase felt really stupid and gloomy. He couldn’t bare hearing the next words that spilled out of Avery’s mouth. Each word stabbed his heart, and made it bleed. “But Avery.” Chase said, finally looking her in the eyes. “You just don’t do this kind of thing. If you didn’t want to get involved, then why did you approach me at the mall? If your life is stressful, don’t flirt with some random guy at the smoothie stand. And shut up about all the ‘shit’ in your life. What is so depressing and stressful? Go to a counselor for God’s sake. Sometimes you just need someone to talk to and work things out. I could of helped you. But that’s probably not going to happen anymore.” He sighed, looking up to the ceiling. He got up from the floor, and back to where he was sitting before, the chair.

Avery hadn't heard a lot of what he said, she was a little bust mentally kicking herself for saying anything. She wasn't really totally paying attention, she couldn't, but one bit caught her like a bullet. Could have...? What did he mean could have? Did he not like her anymore because of her stupidity?! She would mentally break her freaking leg if that's what she'd done. She would. She should have kept her mouth shut. This would have never gotten this bad... Ugh. This was all her fault. "What do you mean 'could have'?" It was her turn to be hurt now, and you could hear it in her voice. A lot. She looked at him, and she looked mostly confused but the hurt probably showed through onto her face too.

Chase didn’t really know that he could get any sadder, but when he saw Avery’s gloomy expression on her face, that basically killed him inside. He felt like an idiot, and he was pretty sure she did too. But you could never be too positive with this girl. “You’re obviously pissed at me. I don’t even know if I ever want to see you again.” He glanced over to the fridge, instantly taking those last words back. Avery looked so hurt. But so did he. So they were basically even. “You hurt me Avery, with every word you said to me.” Chase wasn’t one of those guys who hid their feelings. He said what he wanted to, no matter if it made him sound ‘weak’ or whatever.

Avery just continued looking at her hands, they had simply become the most interesting thing in the world. Not really, but she couldn't look at him, or she might cry or something. And there was no way she was going to let him see her cry. She listened to him talk and sniffled, blinking back what could have become tears. She wouldn't cry. She got up off the floor and looked over at him. She looked away and over at the door, "Maybe I should leave..."

Chase glanced over at Avery. She looked so sad, and it instantly hurt Chase. Really bad. He couldn’t stand this. Not only did he hate conflict of any type, he hated hurting people. That sucked, a lot. Why had they even started freaking out on each other? Chase couldn’t even remember. “This night was not supposed to end up like that.” He sighed, waiting for her to make eye contact with him. But that was like waiting for rainfall during a forty day drought, worthless.

"I hoped it wouldn't..." Avery muttered. She still thought maybe she should leave. She couldn't look at him. She knew he wanted her too, she could read him at times like this, but she couldn't. He was upset and she couldn't live with knowing it was her fault. She couldn't... She stepped a little closer to the door and wanted to look back, not able. Just not able to...

Chase glared at her. She was ruining everything. Well not really, but that's how he felt right about now. "I hope you can fix all your 'problems'." He said bitterly, still glaring at her. He wasn't quite sure if she was going to leave or not. But Chase had a feeling she would. Because what were they going to do if she stayed? Sit around and play cards like old friends? Ha, no.

Avery's jaw dropped at the tone of his voice, she could feel the daggers in his glare. She didn't see him but she knew he was. She sighed and reached for the door. She opened it and the wind hit her. She pulled her jacket closer around her, wishing that Chase was around her instead. She stepped out of the door. "Don't be like that, you started it. You can fix it too..." And with that she shut the door. Shit.
